Does GTA 6 Have Online? Multiplayer, Explained
Short answer: not at launch. GTA 6 arrives on November 19 as a single-player game, GTA Online carries on as it is, and Rockstar has not announced when, or what, GTA 6's multiplayer will be.

What is confirmed
Three official sources say the same thing. Take-Two's June pre-order announcement describes a single-player experience. The PlayStation Store listing calls the game a single-player experience and lists one player. And at its shareholder meeting in September, Take-Two put it plainly: “GTA 6 is a single-player title”.
No online mode, co-op or split-screen has been announced. So if you are buying on November 19, you are buying the story campaign with Jason and Lucia, and that is the whole package for now.
What happens to GTA Online
It stays. Take-Two has said repeatedly through 2026 that the existing GTA Online will remain available and keep being supported after GTA 6 launches. It was not winding down either: its July 14, 2026 summer update, the Kortz Center Heist, shipped on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, per Take-Two's own earnings filing.
One link between the two games: digital GTA 6 pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, which is GTA Online's existing membership.
When will GTA 6 get multiplayer?
Nobody official has said. The most specific claim came from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who told Bloomberg in September 2026 that he expects an even bigger viewing spike “next year when they launch multiplayer”, after talking with Rockstar. Clancy is not a Rockstar spokesperson and Rockstar did not comment, so treat 2027 as an expectation rather than a date.
History gives a rough guide, nothing more. GTA Online launched on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA 5. Red Dead Online's beta arrived on November 27, 2018, about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. Both of those were announced before their games came out. With under three weeks to go, GTA 6's online mode has not been, which suggests Rockstar is treating the next GTA Online as its own, later project.
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has also reported that Take-Two is not planning to talk about the new GTA Online any time soon. That is reporting, not an announcement, and it is logged as a rumour in our claim tracker.
