Which PlayStation for GTA 6?

The quiz is a decision tree, not a score. Five answers go in and one of four verdicts comes out: PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Disc Edition, PS5 Pro, or wait for a GTA 6 bundle. There is no points total and no weighting. The rules run in a fixed order and the first match wins, so the order is part of the logic.

Rule one, the bundle exit. If you are not playing at launch and your budget is anything other than Flexible, the verdict is Wait for a Bundle and the other three answers are never read. Patience plus a price ceiling is the one case where buying nothing today is the strongest move.

Rule two, discs are a hard filter. Answering Yes to physical discs eliminates the Digital Edition outright. Even on a Tight budget you are still sent to the more expensive Disc Edition, because a missing drive is not something a lower price fixes.

Rule three, the Pro gate. A PS5 Pro verdict requires all three of a Flexible budget, a 4K display owned or planned, and visuals answered A lot. Miss any one of the three and the Pro is off the table regardless of the other answers.

Everything else resolves to the PS5 Digital Edition. Once discs are ruled out and the Pro gate is closed, every remaining branch returns the same verdict, so Digital is a fallback rather than a result you can earn. Two quirks follow. The 4K and visuals questions only matter inside the Pro gate, so Somewhat and Not really produce identical verdicts, as do Yes to 4K and Planning to get one. And a Flexible budget switches the bundle advice off entirely, on the assumption that if money is not the constraint, waiting months for a promotion is not what you want.

The numbers behind it

The five questions have three, three, two, two and three options, so there are 108 possible answer combinations. Running every one through the decision function gives 36 Wait for a Bundle, 32 PS5 Disc, 32 PS5 Digital and 8 PS5 Pro. The Pro is deliberately the narrowest outcome.

Rockstar has not published an install size for GTA 6, and the reasoning is set out in the storage math article. The hardware claims behind the Pro verdict are manufacturer ratings, not our measurements. The roughly 45 percent GPU uplift and PSSR upscaling are figures Sony publishes; we have not benchmarked either console. What is confirmed about the game is short: GTA 6 releases 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, pre-orders are live at 79.99 US dollars for the Standard edition and 99.99 for the Ultimate edition, the Vintage Vice City Pack is an Ultimate bonus, and pre-load opens 12 November 2026. Install size, frame rate and resolution modes, PS5 Pro specific enhancements and a PC version are all unconfirmed, and none of them are inputs here, because none of them exist yet.

The SSD paired with each verdict is an editorial mapping, not a calculation: Pro and Digital link to the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Disc and Wait link to the WD_Black SN850X 2TB, and your answers do not change which drive appears. Nothing you enter leaves your browser, so we hold no aggregate data on what people pick.

A worked example

Take a realistic set: budget Mid, 4K display Yes, discs No, playing at launch Yes, visuals A lot. Rule one is skipped because you are playing at launch. Rule two is skipped because you do not need a disc drive. The Pro gate then tests three conditions: 4K passes, visuals passes, budget fails, because Mid is not Flexible. One failure closes the gate. The Tight budget branch does not apply either, so the answer falls through to PS5 Digital Edition with the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB suggestion.

That is worth sitting with. Someone with a 4K TV who cares a lot about image quality still lands on the base console purely because they did not call their budget Flexible. Change that one answer and the same person gets a Pro. If you are undecided about spending, run it twice: the gap between the two results is the real question.

Limitations

It never looks at a price. There are no console prices anywhere in the logic. The word Flexible does all the work a real budget comparison would do, and if a promotion has narrowed the gap between two models, the quiz has no way to know.

The disc answer and the Pro verdict can conflict. Four of the eight Pro combinations come from people who want physical discs. In that case the tool returns PS5 Pro without pointing out that the Pro ships without a disc drive and that Sony sells the drive separately. That is an extra purchase the quiz never mentions, so budget for it before taking the Pro result at face value.

It cannot tell you how GTA 6 will run. No performance modes, resolution targets or Pro specific enhancements have been published for this game. The Pro verdict rests on the general hardware advantage of the console, not on anything confirmed about GTA 6. When Rockstar publishes real technical detail, that beats this quiz.

The bundle verdict is an argument, not a listing. No GTA 6 console bundle has been announced. Advising you to wait is a claim about how console promotions have typically worked around large releases, and the honest downside is waiting months for something that may never appear in the form you wanted.

It assumes one buyer, one console, one game. There is no concept of a shared household, a second console, buying second hand, or trading in old hardware.
