About

Launch Day Gear is an independent gaming-hardware site focused on the PlayStation 5 and the big launches that send people shopping, the biggest of which right now is Grand Theft Auto VI. We test storage, displays, capture cards, headsets and controllers, and we publish buying guides and launch coverage built around one hard rule: a spec is checked before it is quoted, a score is labeled for what it is, and a number is never dressed up as a measurement it is not.

Why this site exists

Most buying guides are rewritten spec sheets. We started Launch Day Gear to chase the data that actually changes your session: load times in real games, sustained write speeds after the SSD cache runs out, capture-card passthrough latency you can feel, and thermals after an hour rather than a minute. When a launch as big as GTA 6 arrives, a bad storage or display decision costs the most, so that is where we point the bench first.

How we test

We buy the gear we cover at retail, run repeatable tests, and log the conditions so a result can be reproduced. Where a figure is an estimate or a manufacturer rating rather than something we measured, we label it that way in the text. When official information does not exist yet, for example unconfirmed GTA 6 specs, we say so plainly and separate what is confirmed from what we expect. The full process is on our methodology page.

How we stay independent

Launch Day Gear is reader-supported. Some links to retailers are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. That revenue funds the gear and the testing. It never decides a verdict or a ranking: we recommend the product that wins on our data, not the one with the best payout. Who runs it

Launch Day Gear is run by a small, independent team of PC and console hardware enthusiasts. We are not owned by a manufacturer, a retailer, or a larger media group. If we get something wrong, we want to know, and we update the page and note the change.
