GTA 6 Map: How Big Leonida Is and Every Region So Far

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional state home to a present-day Vice City. Rockstar says the map is about twice the size of GTA 5's, and it has introduced six regions so far. Here is what each one is, with the official postcards and screenshots.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

In a feature for Edge magazine, reported on October 29, 2026, Rockstar described the map as “just about twice the size of GTA 5”, with a total landmass close to GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Rockstar's Aaron Garbut also stressed density over raw size: the point, as he put it, is that any random spot has been deliberately designed.

Two figures you may have seen are not Rockstar's. The claim that the map is three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2 traces to a YouTuber. And the map sizes that circulated after the 2022 leak came from early development footage and fan mapping, so they are superseded by Rockstar's own comparison. Rockstar has not published a full official map.

Vice City

“Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America.” Rockstar Games

The headline city, set in the present day rather than the 1980s of 2002's GTA Vice City. Rockstar describes it neighbourhood by neighbourhood: the pastel art deco hotels and white sand of Ocean Beach, the panaderias of Little Cuba, the bootleg brands of the Tisha-Wocka flea market, and the VC Port, which it calls the cruise ship capital of the world.

Leonida Keys

A chain of islands strung together by bridges. Rockstar's official screenshots show seaplanes over shallow water, boat parties, a beach bar and coral reefs. The Keys matter to the story too: it is where Jason ended up working for drug runners, and where Brian Heder has been smuggling since the golden age.

Grassrivers

“The untamable jewel of Leonida's crown.” Rockstar Games

Leonida's vast wetlands. Alligators are the famous attraction, but Rockstar warns that the mangroves hide deadlier predators and stranger discoveries. Official art shows airboats crossing the water at sunset.

Port Gellhorn

“This is Leonida's forgotten coast.” Rockstar Games

A faded vacation town of cheap motels, closed attractions and empty strip malls, where the tourists stopped coming and a rougher economy moved in. Rockstar's advice for visitors is to jump on a dirt bike and keep a hand on your wallet.

Ambrosia

“The battle for the health and wealth of Leonida begins here.” Rockstar Games

Leonida's industrial heartland, where old-school values still rule. Rockstar says the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs while the local biker gang provides almost everything else.

Mount Kalaga National Park

“Room to breathe on the state's northern fringes.” Rockstar Games

A national park against Leonida's northern border, with hunting, fishing and off-road trails. Rockstar says the backwoods around it are home to hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living far from the government's gaze.

Where the characters fit

The regions line up with the cast. Jason and Brian Heder work out of the Keys, Boobie Ike and Dre'Quan Priest run their businesses in Vice City, and Lucia's backstory runs through the Leonida Penitentiary. Meet them all on the GTA 6 characters page.

Region descriptions are based on Rockstar's official GTA VI site, and every claim here is in our claim tracker with its source.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar says it is just about twice the size of GTA 5's map, with a total landmass close to GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. That comes from Rockstar via Edge magazine, reported in October 2026.

Is the GTA 6 map three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2?

That figure traces to a YouTuber, not to Rockstar. Rockstar's own comparison is about twice GTA 5, and close to GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together.

Is there an official GTA 6 map?

Rockstar has not published a full map. It has named six regions of Leonida and shown each in official artwork and screenshots. The maps circulating online come from leaks and fan mapping projects.

What cities and areas are in GTA 6?

Rockstar has revealed six areas of the state of Leonida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Is GTA 6 set in Florida?

It is set in Leonida, a fictional state that is widely read as Rockstar's take on Florida. Vice City has always been the series' take on Miami, and in GTA 6 it is set in the present day.
