Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats

Red Dead Redemption 2 has 37 official built-in cheats that are entered as text phrases (full sentences, not button combos) through the in-game Settings > Cheats menu. The phrases are identical on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, so platform is listed as "All"; only the way you open the cheat-entry box differs per platform. Roughly a dozen of the cheats stay locked until you buy and hold the specific in-game newspaper that contains them, and several of those newspapers only become available after a particular story mission/chapter. Capitalization is ignored but punctuation must match exactly.

Cheats: 37
Platforms: All platforms
Type: Built-in cheat codes

Before you use cheats: Activating ANY cheat permanently disables Trophies/Achievements for that save session and blocks all saving (manual and auto) while cheats are active. Always create a separate manual save before turning on a cheat, then reload a clean save if you want to keep earning Trophies/Achievements. Cheats only work in the single-player story mode, NOT in Red Dead Online. There is no true god-mode/invincibility cheat. Some cheats cannot be entered until you have purchased the specific newspaper that contains them, and certain newspapers only appear for sale after a given story mission/chapter (noted per cheat). These are official, built-in cheats with no ban or save-corruption risk in single-player.

How to enter cheats

PlayStation

Press Options to open the Pause Menu, go to Settings, then press Triangle to open the Cheats list. Press Triangle again to open the on-screen keyboard and type the exact phrase, then confirm. Newspaper-locked cheats only accept the phrase once you own the required newspaper edition. Make a separate manual save first, because saving is disabled once a cheat is active.

Xbox

Press Menu to open the Pause Menu, go to Settings, then press Y to open the Cheats list. Press Y again to open the keyboard and type the exact phrase, then confirm. Newspaper-locked cheats require you to already own the matching newspaper. Save manually beforehand, since saving is blocked while a cheat is enabled.

Pause the game, go to Settings, open the Cheats section (Enter/the on-screen prompt) and type the exact phrase, then confirm. Newspaper-locked cheats need the matching newspaper in your inventory. Save first; enabling any cheat disables saving for that session.

All 37 official text-phrase cheats are captured here with exact wording. RDR2 has no large item-ID or spawn-ID console (it is not a command-console game), so there is no massive table to summarize. The only persistent uncertainty across trusted sources is the exact newspaper issue tied to a few cheats (the 'fortify' cheat is listed as Blackwater Ledger No. 68 by PowerPyx but Hanover Gazette No. 36 by ScreenRant/RDR2.org, and 'Balance. All is balance' is listed with No. 27 by PowerPyx but as no-newspaper by ScreenRant); both possibilities are noted in the relevant cheat's notes. Newspaper sellers are found in Valentine, Annesburg, Rhodes, Saint Denis, Strawberry and Blackwater.

FAQ

How do you enter cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2?

Pause the game and open the Settings menu, then press the dedicated Cheats button (Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, or the Cheats option on PC). Type a cheat phrase exactly, then toggle it on. Some cheats must first be unlocked by buying or finding a specific in-game newspaper before they appear.

Do cheats disable trophies and achievements in RDR2?

Yes. Once you activate any cheat in a save, that save can no longer earn Trophies or Achievements, and you will not be able to save the game while cheats are enabled. It is best to use cheats on a separate or finished save if you still want to unlock progression rewards.

Is there a money cheat in Red Dead Redemption 2?

There is a cheat phrase that adds a fixed amount of money each time it is activated, but it must be unlocked by first obtaining a particular newspaper in the game. Like all cheats, using it disables saving and blocks Trophies and Achievements on that save.

What do you need newspapers for in RDR2 cheats?

Several cheats are locked until you purchase or read a specific newspaper sold at in-game shops as the story progresses. Once you own the right newspaper, the matching cheat phrase becomes usable in the Cheats menu. Other cheats are available from the start without any newspaper.

Do RDR2 cheats work in Red Dead Online?

No. Cheat codes only function in the single-player story mode. They cannot be used in Red Dead Online, where they would give players an unfair advantage, so the Cheats menu has no effect on the online multiplayer side of the game.

Are Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats the same on PC, PlayStation and Xbox?

The cheat phrases themselves are the same across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Only the way you open the Cheats menu differs by platform. On console you press the assigned button in Settings, while on PC you select the Cheats option, then type the phrase to enable it.
