GTA 3 Cheats

GTA III has no cheat console. On PC you type a word while playing, and on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch you press a button sequence. The original game has 23 cheats. The 2021 Definitive Edition keeps most of them, adds Big Head Mode and drops at least one. This list covers the original PC, PS2 and Xbox releases, the 2015 PS4 version of the original, and the Definitive Edition on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. Most Xbox cheats show two rows: the first is the Definitive Edition and the second is the original Xbox, which uses the Black and White buttons. Most codes show a short confirmation message when they work.

Before you use cheats: Cheats turn off trophies and achievements in the Definitive Edition on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Guides disagree on how long the lock lasts: GTABase says the save file you used is affected for good, while GTA Boom says it lasts for the rest of the session and clears if you reload a save made before cheating. Keep a separate clean save either way. The original PC, PS2 and Xbox releases had no achievements, and the 2015 PS4 version of the original game does not lock trophies. Saving while a cheat is active can lead to unexpected problems in that save. The pedestrian riot and pedestrians-attack cheats cannot be undone once saved and can make missions hard or impossible, so reload a save from before you used them. Many other cheats switch off when you enter the same code again, and weather codes simply replace the current weather. The Definitive Edition autosaves only when a named mission starts or ends, so make a manual save in a spare slot before experimenting and do not overwrite your clean save. Improved car handling stops Unique Stunt Jumps from registering while it is on. Rockstar has said a few cheats were removed from the Definitive Edition for technical reasons without naming them, so a code that does nothing may be one of them.

How to enter cheats

PC

Type the word on your keyboard during normal play. There is no cheat console or text box, you do not press Enter, and capitals do not matter. A message confirms most codes. The same words work in the original PC release and in the Definitive Edition. The one spelling difference is armor: the first PC release (v1.0) wants TURTOISE, while v1.1 and later want TORTOISE.

PlayStation

Press the buttons in order while playing, using the D-pad for Left, Right, Up and Down instead of the analog sticks. These sequences are the same on the PS2 original, the 2015 PS4 version of that original, and the Definitive Edition on PS4 and PS5. The cheat notes mark the codes that were removed from the Definitive Edition.

Xbox

Press the buttons in order while playing, using the D-pad for directions. A cheat that exists in both versions has two Xbox rows. The first row is the Definitive Edition on Xbox One and Series X|S (LB, RB, LT and RT). The second row is the original Xbox, which uses the Black and White buttons and its two analog triggers (shown as LT and RT). If you run the original Xbox disc through Xbox 360 backward compatibility, press RB where the original row says Black and LB where it says White.

Switch

Definitive Edition only. Press the buttons in order while playing, using the D-pad for directions. The sequences are the PlayStation ones on Switch buttons: Triangle is X, Circle is A, Cross is B, Square is Y, L1 is L, R1 is R, L2 is ZL and R2 is ZR.

Mobile

Definitive Edition on iOS and Android: pause the game, open Options, then Accessibility, then Enter Cheat Code, and type the same words used on PC with the on-screen keyboard. Mobile guides disagree on whether every word is supported, so test any code you rely on.

Wanted Level (2)

  • Raise wanted level by two stars

The console sequences end in six Left and Right presses, as in every original PS2 and Xbox list. Definitive Edition roundups are split, and several list only five presses, which looks like a dropped final Right. If the six-press form does not register on the Definitive Edition, try it without the last Right.

  • Increased gore and dismemberment

Shows no confirmation message. Gore is already on in uncensored English PC builds, so you may see no change there. Original releases only: the GTA Wiki, Inverse, Vandal and GTA Boom report it missing from the Definitive Edition, though some lists still show it.

GTA III has 23 built-in cheats in the original game, and the Definitive Edition adds Big Head Mode, so 24 are listed. Left out on purpose: the 'Pedestrians Fight Each Other' console combo that some roundups list (it splices two real codes together), the PC word NOWEAPONSFORALL, an extra original Xbox traffic-light code listed by one site, and Vice City style weather words that a GTA III page copied by mistake. The Definitive Edition status of Flying Cars, Speed Up Clock, Destroy All Vehicles and Increased Gore is reported differently by different guides, and Rockstar has not published a list of the cheats it removed.

FAQ

How do you enter cheats in GTA 3?

On PC, type the cheat word while playing; there is no console or text box and capitals do not matter. On PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, press the listed button sequence during play, using the D-pad for directions. Most codes show a short confirmation message. On the Definitive Edition for phones, open Options, then Accessibility, then Enter Cheat Code and type the word.

What is the money cheat in GTA 3?

Type IFIWEREARICHMAN on PC. On PlayStation press R2, R2, L1, L1, then Left, Down, Right, Up twice; the Xbox and Switch versions are in the list above. Each entry adds $250,000 and you can repeat it, but there is no infinite money code.

How do you get a tank in GTA 3?

Type GIVEUSATANK on PC. On PlayStation press Circle six times, then R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle. A Rhino tank spawns nearby. The Xbox and Switch sequences are listed with the cheat.

Do GTA 3 cheats disable trophies and achievements?

Not in the original PC, PS2 or Xbox releases, which had no achievement system. In the Definitive Edition, using any cheat disables trophies and achievements. Guides disagree on whether the lock lasts for the session or for that save file, so keep a separate clean save.

Which cheats were removed from the GTA 3 Definitive Edition?

Rockstar said a few cheats were cut for technical reasons but did not name them. Several guides report that Invisible Cars no longer works, and some say Increased Gore is gone too. Reports on Flying Cars and Speed Up Time conflict. The remaster also added a Big Head Mode cheat.

Can GTA 3 cheats be turned off?

Many switch off when you enter the same code again, and weather codes replace the current weather. The pedestrian riot and pedestrians-attack cheats cannot be undone once you save, so reload a save from before you used them.
