GTA Liberty City Stories Cheats

GTA: Liberty City Stories has 43 built-in cheats, all entered as button sequences during normal play with no pause menu, text box or typed cheat words. Thirty-nine are single-player cheats that work on both the PSP original (October 2005) and the PS2 port (June 2006): the buttons are the same, except that the PSP's single L and R shoulder buttons become L1 and R1 on the PS2. The PS3 download of the PS2 version uses the PS2 sequences, and guides say the iOS and Android ports (December 2015 and February 2016) accept the PSP sequences from a connected controller. Four more cheats unlock multiplayer content and exist only on the PSP. The game has no PC version and was never released on PS4. A confirmation message normally appears when a code is accepted.

Before you use cheats: There is no PS4 version of Liberty City Stories. The ESRB listed it for PS4 around September 2017 and Push Square expected trophy support, but Rockstar never released it (Push Square 2020, GTA Wiki), so there are no PS4 codes and no PS4 trophies to worry about. The only PlayStation re-release is a PS3 download of the PS2 version (April 2013), which Push Square says has no trophies; the PSP and PS2 originals predate trophies, so cheats cannot cost you any on those either. No source says cheats affect achievements on the iOS and Android ports. Saving: none of the sources say the game blocks saving after a cheat, but CheatCC and The GTA Place advise against saving while a cheat is active because it may affect game statistics and cause glitches, and GTA.com.ua and Vandal warn that saving after cheating can interfere with 100 percent completion. Make a separate save before using any code and do not overwrite your clean story save. Some effects cannot be switched off and need a reload of that clean save, notably Pedestrians Riot and Pedestrians Attack (GTABase, Vandal), and the Pedestrians Follow effect may persist. Faster Clock can be turned off by entering it again, while Faster Gameplay and Slower Gameplay stack with repeated entries. Entering Change Player Skin several times in a row on foot can lock Toni's movement. The four multiplayer unlocks work on the PSP only. Typed PC cheat words belong to other games (Liberty City Stories has no PC release), and lists that print them for this game are copying Vice City codes, so do not mix lists.

How to enter cheats

PSP

PSP version: start playing and make sure no menu, pause screen or cutscene is open. Enter the sequence with the D-pad (not the analog nub), the Triangle, Circle, X and Square buttons, and the L and R shoulder buttons, in order and without long pauses. A confirmation message normally appears when a code is accepted. Some effects switch off if you enter the same code again, while others stay on until you reload a save.

PS2

PS2 version: the method is the same and the sequences match the PSP ones, with L1 and R1 in place of the PSP's L and R. Play normally with no menu or cutscene open, then press the D-pad directions, face buttons and L1/R1 in order without long pauses. The PS3 download of the PS2 game (PS2 Classics, April 2013) uses the same sequences. The Perfect Handling car hop uses L3 on PS2 (Down on PSP). The four multiplayer unlock codes are PSP-only and do nothing on PS2.

Mobile

iOS and Android: the mobile ports (iOS December 2015, Android February 2016) take the PSP sequences from a connected game controller. Pair a Bluetooth gamepad, play normally, and enter the codes during gameplay, treating L and R as the left and right shoulder buttons. CheatCC maps an Xbox-style pad as A = X, B = Circle, X = Square, Y = Triangle, LB = L, RB = R, while a PlayStation controller needs no translation. The multiplayer unlock codes are accepted but do nothing, because the mobile game has no multiplayer.

  • Second upside-down code (called Upside Up or Reverse Upside Down)

GTABase and the GTA Wiki call it Reverse Upside Down (GTABase says it reverts the first flip); CheatCC (2006) and PSU call it Upside Up, and Vandal, The GTA Place and Grand Theft Wiki treat it as a second upside-down mode. If you flip the screen with this code first, CheatCC (2006) and Vandal give Up, Up, Up, Triangle, Triangle, Square, R, L as the PSP entry to return to normal, again typed with the mirrored buttons.

All 43 built-in button codes found in the checked lists are covered: 39 single-player cheats for the PSP and PS2 versions (the PS3 download uses the PS2 sequences, and the iOS and Android ports accept the PSP sequences from a connected controller) and 4 PSP-only multiplayer unlocks. Left out on purpose: PS2 and Mobile rows for the multiplayer unlocks (no multiplayer there; the GTA Wiki says the PS2 and mobile builds accept the codes with no effect), the Mobile row for Spawn Rhino (the GTA Wiki reports different behavior on mobile), PS2 forms of the mirrored return-to-normal entries for the flip codes (listed by Vandal only), a five-button infinite-ammo entry from Breakflip, CheatCC's seven-button Black Traffic typo, the typed PC words that Esports.net copied from Vice City, and name-entry codes that belong to the original 1997 GTA. Rewards such as infinite ammo and bulletproof vehicles at 100 percent completion, costume unlocks and hidden-package prizes are story unlockables, not cheat codes, and are not listed. Cheat-device codes (Action Replay, CodeBreaker, CWCheat) are a different system and are not covered. The GTA Place noted in 2005 that some codes of unknown function had been found; no later list documents any, and the 43 here match the full set shown by GTABase. For cross-checking, see GTABase and Grand Theft Wiki.

FAQ

How do you enter cheats in GTA Liberty City Stories?

Play normally with no menu or cutscene open and press the listed buttons in order, using the D-pad, face buttons and shoulder buttons. The PSP uses L and R, and the PS2 uses L1 and R1. A confirmation message normally appears when a code is accepted. There are no typed cheat words in this game.

What is the money cheat in GTA Liberty City Stories?

L, R, Triangle, L, R, Circle, L, R on PSP, or L1, R1, Triangle, L1, R1, Circle, L1, R1 on PS2. It adds $250,000 each time you enter it and can be repeated, but there is no unlimited-money cheat.

Are the PSP and PS2 cheat codes different?

Only in the shoulder buttons: PSP codes use L and R, and PS2 codes use L1 and R1. The four multiplayer unlock codes exist only on the PSP, because the PS2 version has no multiplayer.

Does GTA Liberty City Stories have cheats on iOS and Android?

Yes, but only through a connected controller. CheatCC, iGrandTheftAuto, GTA.com.ua and the GTA Wiki say the mobile ports use the same sequences as the PSP version and that you need a Bluetooth game controller to enter them. The multiplayer unlock codes do nothing on mobile.

Is there a PS4 version of GTA Liberty City Stories, and do cheats affect trophies?

No PS4 version exists. The ESRB listed one around 2017, but Rockstar never released it. The PS3 download of the PS2 version (April 2013) has no trophies according to Push Square, and the PSP and PS2 originals predate trophies, so cheats cannot cost you any.

Do cheats stop you from saving in GTA Liberty City Stories?

None of the sources say the game blocks saving after a cheat, but CheatCC and The GTA Place advise against saving while a cheat is active because it may affect stats or cause glitches, and GTA.com.ua and Vandal warn it can interfere with 100 percent completion. Some effects, such as Pedestrians Riot and Pedestrians Attack, cannot be switched off, so keep a clean save and reload it if needed.
