GTA Chinatown Wars Cheats

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars came out on Nintendo DS and PSP in 2009, on iOS in January 2010 and on Android in December 2014. This list has 23 cheats. The DS and PSP games have 16 button codes that you press during normal play, and the iOS and Android games have 16 word codes that you spell with the magnetic letters on the Mission Replay Board in a safehouse. Nine effects exist on every version: health, armor, wanted level up and down, four weapon packs and Explosive Eagle. The seven weather codes are DS and PSP only (mobile has one storm code), while the money, clock and drug dealer codes are mobile only. Sources say entering a cheat switches autosave off, so save manually first.

Before you use cheats: On the DS and PSP, entering any cheat switches autosave off, so make a manual save before you start and reload that clean save when you finish. The pause-menu Statistics page also keeps a Times cheated count. The DS and PSP games have in-game trophies on a shelf in your apartment; no source we checked says cheats block them, but earning them on a clean save is the safe choice.

How to enter cheats

Nintendo DS

Play normally with the game unpaused and with you outside a safehouse, then press the buttons in order using the D-pad, A, B, X, Y, L and R. You should hear a sound when the code is accepted. Nothing is typed into a menu. Entering any cheat switches autosave off, so make a manual save first.

PSP

Same method as the DS: unpaused and outside a safehouse, press the sequence in order using the D-pad, Triangle, Circle, X, Square, L and R. A sound confirms an accepted code. Entering any cheat switches autosave off, so make a manual save first.

Mobile

iOS and Android: go into any safehouse and open the Mission Replay Board, the whiteboard covered in jumbled magnetic letters. Drag the letters until they spell the code, for example LIFEUP. When it is accepted, the letters snap back to their starting positions and a message appears at the bottom of the screen. After a weapon pack, leave the safehouse and use the pause button in the top-right corner to switch weapons.

    Mobile
    TEMPEST

Money, Time and Dealers (Mobile Only) (6)

  • Add $10,000 cash

No DS or PSP list includes a money cheat.

    CASHIN

    JUMPHR
  • Advance the clock six hours

    Mobile
    JUMPHRS
  • Advance the clock one day

    Mobile
    JUMPDAY
  • Freeze the clock

Keeps the time of day from changing. Some older lists leave it out.

    Mobile
    NOTIME
  • Show all drug dealer locations

Early 2010 lists marked this code's effect as unknown, while later lists say it reveals every dealer. The GTA Wiki and GTABase do not list it.

    Mobile
    TRIPPY

Covers all 16 DS and PSP button codes and all 16 iOS and Android word codes found in at least two independent listings, which makes 23 distinct cheats. GTABase counts 21 because it leaves out TRIPPY and folds TEMPEST into a DS and PSP storm code. Left out on purpose: Action Replay and CWCheat memory codes, helper apps such as PRO Cheats, gameplay tricks, and rewards that unlock through play (bulletproof taxis, regenerating health and similar). DS weapon pack 4 and PSP weapon pack 1 are both written R, Up, X, Down, Left, R, X, Right, but X is a different physical button on each system, so rows are kept strictly per platform. For the cross-referenced tables, see GTABase and the GTA Wiki.

FAQ

How do you enter cheats in GTA Chinatown Wars?

On the Nintendo DS and PSP, press the button sequence during normal play with the game unpaused and while you are outside a safehouse; a sound confirms it. On iOS and Android, go into a safehouse and drag the magnetic letters on the Mission Replay Board to spell the code, such as LIFEUP.

Is there a money cheat in GTA Chinatown Wars?

Only on mobile. The code CASHIN adds $10,000 on iOS and Android. None of the DS or PSP cheat lists include a money cheat.

Do cheats turn off autosave in GTA Chinatown Wars?

Yes, according to the sources. CheatCC says entering a code switches autosave off on the DS and PSP, SuperCheats and GameFAQs say the same for the PSP, and GTABase says it for the game in general. None of them say manual saving is blocked, but GTABase advises saving before you cheat and reloading that save afterward.

Are the DS, PSP and mobile cheat codes the same?

Nine effects exist on all three: health, armor, wanted level up and down, four weapon packs and Explosive Eagle. The DS and PSP use the same button pattern but different face-button names (DS A, B, X and Y become Circle, X, Triangle and Square on the PSP). Weather codes are DS and PSP only apart from mobile's TEMPEST, and the money, clock and drug dealer codes are mobile only.

What are the weapon pack codes in GTA Chinatown Wars?

Mobile uses LOADOA, LOADOB, LOADOC and LOADOD for packs 1 to 4. On the DS the pattern is R, Up, button, Down, Left, R, button, Right, with B, A, Y and X for packs 1 to 4. On the PSP the same pattern uses X, Circle, Square and Triangle.

Do cheats affect trophies in GTA Chinatown Wars?

The DS and PSP games have in-game trophies on a shelf in your apartment, and none of the sources we checked says cheats block them. The GTA Wiki does warn that cheats in these games may disable achievements, so play on a clean save if you want to be safe. The iOS and Android versions have no Social Club support.
