Valheim Console Commands

Valheim has a built-in developer console: enable it, press F5, then type devcommands to unlock cheats such as god, fly and spawn. Cheats work in single-player or self-hosted worlds, not on dedicated servers.

Before you use cheats: Most devcommands, such as spawn, permanently flag your character and world as cheated, locking achievements; freefly is exempt. Spawned items are tagged cheated too. Hotfix 1.0.12 added an opt-in command. Back up world and character files first; location without SAVE disables saving.

How to enter cheats

PC (Steam)

Settings > Gameplay > Enable Console; the -console launch option is no longer required. Press F5, type devcommands, then confirmcheats if asked. After debugmode: B free build, Z fly, K kill, L clear drops.

PC Game Pass

Yes, the Microsoft Store build has a console. Use Settings > Gameplay > Enable Console, or add -console to a Valheim.exe shortcut's Target (C:\XboxGames\Valheim\Content). Then press F5 and type devcommands.

Xbox

Yes, Xbox has a console, off by default since patch 0.221.4. Enable it in Settings > Gameplay, hold LB, RB, LT and RT, press Menu, then A for the keyboard. Type devcommands.

PlayStation 5 and Switch 2

No official instructions yet: Iron Gate has not documented a console for either, so none is confirmed here. Some guides report a hidden controller combo, but sources disagree.

How do I enable console commands in Valheim?

Turn on Enable Console in Settings > Gameplay (or add -console in Steam), press F5, then type devcommands. Cheats work in single-player or a world you host, not on dedicated servers.

Do Valheim cheats disable achievements?

Does Valheim have a console on Xbox or PC Game Pass?

Yes, both. On Xbox, turn on Enable Console in Settings > Gameplay, then hold LB, RB, LT and RT and press Menu. On PC Game Pass, use the same toggle or a shortcut with -console, then press F5.

How do I spawn items in Valheim?

After devcommands, type spawn, the exact prefab name and an amount, for example spawn Wood 50. Items drop beside you. Add a level for creatures: spawn Troll 1 3 gives a two-star Troll.
