DOOM (1993) and DOOM II Cheats

DOOM (1993) and DOOM II use iconic built-in typed cheat codes (the "ID" codes, named after developer id Software) that you simply type while playing. They remain active in modern re-releases, including the 2024 "DOOM + DOOM II" KEX-engine remaster, which also adds a developer console with text commands (god, noclip, give all). Console ports lack a keyboard, so they substitute controller button sequences (or, in later ports, an in-game Cheats menu). Cheats do not disable achievements or trophies in the 2024 re-release.

Heads up // In the 2024 DOOM + DOOM II re-release, cheats do NOT disable or revoke achievements/trophies (you may even accidentally pop one while cheating). In the original DOS releases there is no achievement system, so there is no penalty. On non-QWERTY keyboards the typed letters may differ (e.g. on a French AZERTY layout, IDKFA must be typed as IDKFQ, since the codes respond to physical key positions, not letters). IDCLIP/IDSPISPOPD (no-clip) can let you walk into areas that trap or kill you, so it carries minor softlock/death risk. These are official built-in cheats, no third-party software, save corruption, or online-ban risk is involved. Console-port button combos must be entered in the exact paused state described or they will not register.

On the full ID list

DOOM/DOOM II do not have a large item-ID or spawn-ID table, the classic cheats are a small fixed set of typed ID codes, so all of them are captured here, plus per-platform console button-combo equivalents and the 2024 KEX-remaster console commands. Some niche or platform-exclusive codes (e.g. SNES Game Genie hex codes, Tapwave Zodiac, and the full iOS TNT-prefixed give/remove family) are summarized rather than exhaustively listed; the authoritative cross-platform reference is ClassicDoom.com (https://www.classicdoom.com/doomcode.htm) and the official Doom Wiki (https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Cheat_codes and https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Console_Doom_cheats).

FAQ // Straight answers

How do you enter cheat codes in DOOM and DOOM II?

In the classic games you simply type the cheat code on the keyboard during normal gameplay; there is no special menu to open. The code activates the moment it is fully typed, usually with an on-screen confirmation message. In console and the modern DOOM + DOOM II re-release, cheats are typically entered through an in-game cheats or console menu instead of typed live.

What is the god mode cheat in DOOM?

The classic god mode cheat is IDDQD, which makes the player invulnerable to nearly all damage. It is one of the most iconic codes in gaming. Note that it does not protect against every instant-death hazard such as crushing ceilings or falling into a level-ending pit.

What is the cheat for all weapons and ammo in DOOM?

IDKFA gives all weapons, full ammo, all keys, and armor in one code. A related code, IDFA, grants weapons, ammo, and armor but without the keys. These are among the most-used cheats for jumping straight into the action.

Do cheat codes disable achievements or trophies in DOOM?

In the modern DOOM + DOOM II re-release and other console versions, enabling cheats generally disables achievement and trophy unlocks for that session or save. The original 1993 and 1994 PC releases predate achievements, so cheating there has no such system to affect. Check your specific platform's prompts before relying on cheats.

Is there a money cheat in DOOM?

No. Classic DOOM and DOOM II have no currency, shop, or money system, so there is no money cheat. Resource cheats instead grant items directly, such as full ammo, armor, keys, and all weapons via codes like IDKFA and IDFA.

Do the classic DOOM cheats work on all platforms?

The original typed codes work on the PC and most faithful ports of the classic games. Console, mobile, and re-released versions may use a cheats menu or console instead of live typing, and some codes can be renamed, remapped, or unavailable. Behavior can also differ between DOOM, The Ultimate Doom, and DOOM II.
